Discovering Your Core Values
Have you ever made a decision that looked right on paper but still didn't feel right? Or found yourself feeling stuck, frustrated or disconnected without really knowing why?
Often, it's because we're living in a way that isn't aligned with our core values.
Your core values are the qualities that matter most to you. They are your internal compass, guiding how you want to live, love, work and show up in the world. When your thoughts, choices and actions align with your values, life feels more authentic, meaningful and fulfilling.
Values vs Goals vs Beliefs
These are often confused, but they're very different.
Goals are what you want to achieve.
"I want to build a successful business."
Beliefs are what you believe to be true about yourself or the world.
"I'm capable of creating success."
Values are how you want to live, regardless of the outcome.
"I value authenticity, freedom and kindness."
Goals may change. Beliefs can be rewritten. But your core values tend to stay with you throughout life.
Why Your Core Values Matter
Your affirmations become far more powerful when they're rooted in your values.
Rather than simply repeating words, you're reinforcing the person you're choosing to become.
For example, if your values include freedom, authenticity and connection, an affirmation might be:
"It is safe for me to express my authentic self and create meaningful connections with others."
When your affirmations reflect what truly matters to you, they feel more believable, more aligned and create a stronger emotional response.
A Simple Seven-Step Exercise
Think about a time you felt truly alive and fulfilled.
Write down what made that moment so meaningful.
Highlight the qualities that were present.
Circle any words that repeat.
Narrow your list down to 10 values.
Reduce them again to your top five.
Finally, ask yourself: If everything else disappeared, which three values would I never want to lose?
Those are likely your core values.
Are You Living Your Values?
Take a moment to reflect.
Which of your values do you honour every day?
Which have you been neglecting?
Where are you saying "yes" when your values are asking you to say "no"?
What one small change could help you live more in alignment this week?
Awareness is always the first step towards transformation.
Create a Values-Based Action Plan
Choose one of your top three values.
Ask yourself:
What does this value look like in everyday life?
What choices would someone living this value make?
What's one action I can take today that reflects this value?
Remember, transformation doesn't happen through huge leaps ... it happens through small, consistent choices that align with who you truly are.
As you begin writing your affirmations, allow your core values to shape your words. The more your affirmations reflect the person you genuinely want to become, the more naturally your mind, emotions and actions begin to move in that direction
